Inland Waterways in Mumbai
After three decades of feasibility reports and discussion of the inland waterways which is about to become a reality in Mumbai. Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in the entire world the service is on the whole world which also includes the trial run. Union minister of state is expected to start service after the proper planning and guidance from the Government of India. According to the proposal, it is decided that the inland waterways will have 12 rounds including Kalyan to Vasai which will be connecting the north-south to the east-west.
It was expected to be started in May with the hovercraft but it got delayed due to the pandemic situation. Several private players are interested in running the inland waterways services with the collaboration of Mumbai Port Trust. According to the assurance by the minister of waterways, inland water transportation will soon be completed which includes Vasai to Kalyan, Thane to Mumbai, Vasai to Mumbai, etc. Once the situation completely gets to normal it is expected to connect the Suburban is Mumbai with greater Mumbai.
With the pandemic outbreak, the ministry has also advised the service providers to take extra precautions during the boarding of the cruises coming from abroad. According to the mandatory guideline, every cruise member in the passenger will be quarantined in case they come to land in Mumbai. Several identified hospitals will keep the patient from the cruisers to have proper guidelines. They will also receive various materials and foods in daily life that will give them the direct supply and the Government of Mumbai.
Inland service will also allow the crew to land in the port but need to be quarantined. It is also mandatory to have a proper vaccination report which will ensure them to have ferry rides in inland waterways in Mumbai. Ferry services can be easily booked online using various private services that are collaborating with the Mumbai Port Trust.Catamaran and Speed boards will be used for carrying up to 60 people in every ride as ferry passengers. The tariff is yet to be finalized by the Mumbai Port Trust, but it is estimated to have a one-way fare of ₹300.
